WTC Steel Flagholders
We were proud recipients of 2 pieces of WTC steel thanks to the efforts of Debora Jackson, Honorary Director. As spaceholders on the Western Wall of Maimonides Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones we needed to find the most appropriate way to display the steel. Founder Sol Moglen thought they could be reimagined as flag holders. We now have one red for FDNY and one Blue for NYPD and PAPD. The are a beautiful addition to the Wall. Check the GALLERY
a Flag for Marie
Like Breezy Point , the Rockaways and others areas of the coastline, Coney Island was hard hit. While We were blessed that the Wall sustained no damage but we are cognizant that so many others lost so much. The wall, besides helping to support the work of foundations like the Siller Foundation, we are doing what good we can, where we can.
Marie Lo Prestie lost nearly everything in the Hurricane. She also lost her husband Anthony 2 years ago. Anthony served 4 years in the US Army, and at his funeral she was given a US flag. It was lost in the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. Because the military only gives out one flag to a deceased’s family, the would not replace the flag for Maria. When her sister, Alice Dunn called, we decided to do everything to help. With the help of the Jewish War Veterans and Dignity Memorial, Wall Founder, Sol Moglen, presented her a replacement flag in a presidential case on Saturday, Dec. 1st, 2012.
